**Live and work on Willis Island**

Willis Island is the only permanently inhabited island in the Coral Sea Islands Territory, an external territory of Australia, located beyond the Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea. The island is located some 450 kilometres east of Cairns, Queensland. It is the southernmost of the Willis Islets, a group of three islands which with their associated sandy cays stretch in a NNE to SSW line for about 12 kilometres. Willis Island itself is aligned NW to SE and is about 500 metres long by 150 metres wide, rising to about 9 metres above sea level. Willis Island is home to an abundance of wildlife particularly birdlife and is an important Green Turtle nesting site.

As a member of a small team living and working in an isolated environment, there are several personal qualities and technical requirements that will determine suitability for this position. Applicants will be assessed on technical experience, knowledge and competencies, as well as personal resilience and adaptability in a unique living and working arrangements. This is an opportunity for the successful applicant to gain experience working in a remote location and enable personal development in this role.

You will be expected to participate in station cleaning and general household duties and support the Willis Island Station Manager to lead a local work culture that supports staff to live and work in an isolated environment, building resilience in other staff and managing relationships with staff and supervisors.

**About the roles**

**Field Services Technician - APS Level 6**

The Willis Island TO4 will be undertaking moderate to very complex operational, infrastructure and network support tasks such as coordination of resources for maintenance, inspections and return to service of sophisticated technologies, advanced system diagnostics, fault finding, technical administration and providing support to Willis Island Operations.

**Officer-in-Charge - APS Level 5**

The Willis Island TO3 OIC is responsible for undertaking and managing the program of Service at Willis Island which includes, Upper Air Observations, Surface Observations, Instrument maintenance and data quality monitoring. They will also be responsible for the rostering of staff for observational duties and general station maintenance duties as well as ensuring all staff adhere to the environmental management of Willis Island. The OIC will also oversee and participate in scientific research projects undertaken for other organisations at Willis Island such as Parks Australia and James Cook University

**Technical Officer - APS Level 3**

They will support the staff for observational duties and general station maintenance duties as well as ensuring all staff adhere to the environmental management of Willis Island.

**Eligibility criteria**
- Hold a valid Australian drivers licence
- Be willing to undertake psychometric, medical & dental assessments
- Be fully vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccination

**Salary**: $61,449.00 - $96,267.00 per year
