- Casual rate of approximately $40 per hour
**Do you**:

Who are we?
Community Work and Partnerships is one of four service delivery streams within Community Correctional Services (CCS). We are responsible for the development of mutually beneficial partnerships with government agencies and non-government organisations so that offenders can undertake unpaid work as part of their community-based sentence imposed by the Courts of Victoria. Community work serves as a valuable way for offenders to pay back the community while also reconnecting and reintegrating into the community.
What does a Field Officer do?
Your primary responsibility as a Field Officer will be to supervise a team of offenders at community work sites and other community work programs. As a key role model in your work, you will represent the Department in a professional and ethical manner at all times and promote the rehabilitative benefits of community work programs to offenders to enhance community safety.
A day in the life of a Field Officer...
Your shift starts at a Community Corrections location where you collect a bus/ trailer with equipment. You then drive to a site to collect a group of up to 11 offenders, sign them on and transport them to a partner not-for-profit organisation in the community. Tasks for the day involve litter collection, mowing and weeding. Your responsibility is to instruct the offenders to safely perform each task and monitor the work performed for the partner site before returning them to the drop off point and returning to your depot.
OR
Your shift could start at a Community Corrections location to pick up an esky of food. You travel to a local community centre to meet a group of offenders who will cook meals for disadvantaged community members accessing services at this community centre. As a skilled cook you will oversee and monitor the quality of meals created and ensure food safety processes are followed. You monitor clean up before ending your shift.
OR
You attend work at a Community Corrections location to meet a group of offenders. You access the warehouse at this facility to run a bike repair program with the offenders so that these bikes can be donated to disadvantaged community members or local schools. You share your mechanical skills and knowledge with the offenders and monitor/ oversee the quality of the work performed so that the bikes are safe to be donated.
Expected work hours
This is a casual position and we are currently looking for someone who can do 1-3 regular shifts per week with a preference to be able to do more to cover periods of leave when needed.
**To be successful in becoming a Field Officer, you will**:
- Have supervisory experience and demonstrated capability in setting work tasks.
- Be able to communicate and demonstrate a range of tasks and ensure a safe environment for offender work teams.
- Have experience towing a trailer and be able to transport offenders and equipment in a mini-bus to and from community work sites.
- Quickly build rapport in order to understand the motivations of others, identify issues and suggest courses of action appropriate to their needs.
- Have demonstrated ability to manage conflict and strong problem-solving skills.
- Model appropriate behaviours and attitudes to assist offenders to develop new skills and work practices.
You do not need to be experienced in working with the offender population, however if you have skills in food service, warehouse Food Distribution, landscaping, mechanical skills or experience in project/business support we would love to hear from you.
A full and current drivers' licence is essential.
