While this is a part-time position (60% - 3 days per week), in parliamentary sitting weeks the occupant of the position is required to work additional hours so they are essentially working full-time during these weeks. There are approximately 16 parliamentary sitting weeks per calendar year.
In a parliamentary sitting week there are usually 3 parliamentary sitting days, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On parliamentary sitting days the occupant of the position is required to work for at least the duration of the sitting day which necessitates some overtime. Parliamentary sitting days are usually completed by 7.30 pm but may continue beyond that time. The occupant of the position is required to work for up to two hours after the completion of a sitting day on a rotational basis.
There is one budget week per calendar year. Parliament usually sits for 4 days during budget week and may sit for extended hours on the 4th sitting day.
In the week following a sitting week, the occupant of the position is usually required to work additional days to ensure the timely publication of the final Record of Proceedings from the sittings of the Assembly.
**The primary objectives of the position are**:
- Provide the publishing and support services required for the production of the reports of the proceedings of Parliament, Parliamentary Committees, and other events held under the auspices of the Queensland Parliament in camera-ready and electronic form.
- Assist with the development of procedures, practices and techniques for the cost-effective production and distribution of transcripts in hard copy and electronic format.
- Assist with the provision of a high quality audio visual broadcast of the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly and Parliamentary Committees.
**Duties and responsibilities of the position include**:
- Prepare, format (for example, insertion of hyperlinks, time stamps macros and statistics markers), deliver and publish in camera-ready and electronic format reports of the proceedings of the Parliament, Parliamentary Committees and other events conducted under the auspices of the Queensland Parliament
- Provide advice to the Chief Reporter on costs, quality and timeliness of publications.
- Respond to a wide range of inquiries from Members of Parliament and other stakeholders.
- Assist with the continuing development of production techniques using various software packages to ensure the maintenance of product quality and continuing cost-effectiveness.
- Make approved editorial corrections to proof reports of proceedings without supervision and format proofs for final publication and archiving, ensuring consistency of format and style.
- Liaise with parliamentary staff at all levels, members and external clients.
- Archive electronic transcripts to ensure their security, integrity and ability to be recalled.
- Assist in operating the console for the audio visual broadcast of the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly and Parliamentary Committees.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
