**The Role**
The Early Learning and Indigenous Priorities Branch works closely with First Nations partners, and other Commonwealth agencies to progress national priorities, including the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and reforms to support improved early learning and development outcomes. The Branch is responsible for working collaboratively with stakeholders to develop advice and support initiatives to improve access to quality early childhood education and care (ECEC) for First Nations children and those experiencing disadvantage.

This vacancy is available in the Indigenous Early Learning Team. This team is responsible for supporting progress against Targets under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, specifically Target 3 (First Nations children are engaged in high quality, culturally appropriate early education in their early years) and Target 4 (First Nations children thrive in their early years). This team is also responsible for delivering a number of targeted programs for First Nations children that contribute to achieving Closing the Gap ECEC outcomes and Priority Reforms.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the Assistant Director may include:

- Working in close partnership with First Nations stakeholders and other partners to support effective implementation, policy development and collaboration.
- Managing and building collaborative relationships within the department, other Commonwealth agencies, state and territory governments, Project partners and First Nations representatives.
- Supporting Ministerial and parliamentary briefing, including oversight of the development of policy advice and briefing material.
- Delivering project activities, policy analysis, data analysis and research, including oversight of funding agreements, contracts and grants.
- Supervising staff and supporting staff development.
- Leading on First Nations-specific ECEC initiatives and projects funded by the department, including understanding the broader operating context and an ability to draw links across issues.
- Supporting relevant Early Childhood Care and Development Policy Partnership projects and activities as required.
