**Position Information**:
West Wallsend High School is a proudly comprehensive 7-12 community-focused school, which supports and encourages students to achieve their full potential in an inclusive and caring environment based on the core values of respect, responsibility and excellence. The school is located on the land of the Pambalong of Awabakal Country on the western side of Newcastle as part of the Lake Macquarie North principal network and has an enrolment of almost 700 students. Students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds with 16% of students identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The school has seven inclusive education classes.
West Wallsend High School has a tradition of strong parent and community involvement working together with the P&C and the Kumaridha AECG. We foster proud connections to four partner primary schools as part of the Sugarloaf Community of Schools as well as extensive links to the wider West Wallsend community, the University of Newcastle, Wollotuka Institute and other cultural, vocational and community organisations.
**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a faculty with high level support to guide new curriculum reform and professional development for teachers of varied experience.
- Demonstrated ability to embed formative assessment practices and high quality teaching and learning experiences that lead to student growth and achievement.
- Highly developed capacity to analyse data to inform, design and deliver targeted initiatives to improve the learning experiences and outcomes of students with a diverse range of learning needs including HPGE, those from low-socio-economic communities and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
Capacity to lead collaborative and strategic planning processes which respond to priorities for whole school improvement as a member of the executive team.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
