The Premier’s Department leads the largest workforce in the southern hemisphere of 430,000 public servants and works closely with agencies to provide the Premier with assurance on progress towards outcomes.
The Secretary leads the public sector, and as such has unique leadership and stewardship responsibilities with a laser focus on delivery. The role drives the performance of the executive teams across the Department and the Executive Agencies related to the Department to ensure that all key priorities are delivered.
This role provides expert, structure and independent implementation advice to the Premier, and provides leadership in areas with a high level of political interest and public visibility, impacting the community, industry, and the economy.
The Secretary must have a proven record of leading delivery functions and managing effective partnerships and relationships with all levels of government, community and key stakeholders.
This new role will lead the Premier’s Department to:
- Lead the public sector in NSW: as per the Ethical Framework and public sector values of Integrity, Trust, Service and Accountability
- Be the spokesperson for the sector
- Ensure meaningful engagement with community, industry and partners
- Drive whole of Government implementation
- Embed the voice of First Nations people across the public sector
- Build capability for end-to-end delivery against government priorities to lead structures for delivery against those priorities
- Champion opportunities for the Premier (at the centre of government) to meaningfully connect with the community.
