**Position Information**:
Newtown High School of the Performing Arts is one of the leading specialist Performing Arts high schools in Australia enjoying a national and international reputation for excellence in the creative and performing arts. The school is located in the inner west suburb of Newtown and has a student enrolment of 1124. The school enrols students from both the local area and auditions students from all over NSW in dance, drama and music for intakes in Years 7 and 11. All members of the school community are invested in the core values of the school which are creativity, excellence and equity. The school is committed to excellence in student education by providing a challenging curriculum and a range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that enhance the talent of its students.
**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1.Ability to inspire, develop and lead staff at all stages of their career through professional learning and evidence-informed, innovative pedagogy to promote high-quality teaching, learning and assessment practices.
2.Demonstrated understanding and use of data to plan, co-ordinate, implement and evaluate whole school programs that improve student outcomes for all learners, including high-potential and gifted students.
3.A visible leader with the capacity to work as a dynamic member of the school executive team to drive the implementation of the school’s strategic directions.
4.Outstanding communication, creativity and organisational skills with demonstrated capacity to contribute to building and strengthening a collaborative learning culture in the school through positive partnerships with students, staff and parents and the wider community.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
