**Your role**

Professional Standards & Investigations (PSI) is a unit within Department of Communities and Justice which:

- Receives and handles misconduct allegations against Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) employees.
- Investigates misconduct allegations as required.
- Provides training, support and guidance to staff and management regarding workplace misconduct and reporting of misconduct.
- Assists and advises decision-makers in relation to misconduct proceedings against employees.

The PSI are looking for versatile and motivated solicitors to fill temporary **Legal Officer Grade I-III** vacancies for up to 10 months. The PSI is currently expanding, and a talent pool will be created to fill future ongoing and temporary **Legal Officer Grade I-III** opportunities.

As a Legal **Officer Grade, I-III** you will be responsible for providing legal and policy advice in relation to professional misconduct matters and providing advice in relation to employment and administrative law matters. Your casework will involve taking instructions, providing legal advice to decision-makers and senior executive, undertaking research and preparing court documents/legal submissions/briefing notes. A Legal Officer within PSI also conducts dispute resolution and advocacy in Courts and Tribunals including the Industrial Relations Commission, District, Supreme and Federal Courts and NCAT.

- Effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Have knowledge and experience in the relevant area/s of law and have experience in providing legal advice.
- Have the ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills.

**Essential Requirements**
- Legal qualifications and admission as a solicitor of the NSW Supreme Court with a current practising certificate;
- Current driver’s licence and preparedness to drive a vehicle in the course of performing the role;
- Preparedness to travel to/work from a rural location as required, including travelling to correctional centres/facilities.

PSI provides professional services to CSNSW relating to the handling and investigation of misconduct allegations to make CSNSW a safer and more efficient workplace. In turn, this allows CSNSW to better serve the community and carry out its functions, including the enhancement of public safety, and the effective, safe and humane management of offenders both in custody and in the community. PSI also works in partnership with other government and community agencies to ensure legislative functions are conducted properly and efficiently.
