About the role
West Moreton Youth Detention Centre is part of the Queensland Government's strategic program of investment in youth justice. Based on research, indicative data modelling and ongoing consultation, a localised, geographically-based operating model has been confirmed. Young people case managed by the Ipswich and Western Districts Youth Justice Service Centre's will form the priority admissions for the centre. The decision to proceed with the target group of young people is consistent with international research advocating for smaller centres in close proximity to family and
community. It also takes into account the following considerations:

- meets the Queensland Government commitment of working in a different way
- is consistent with the direction of the Youth Justice Strategy Action Plan 2019 to 2023
- meets the existing philosophy of youth detention and the principles contained within Youth Justice legislation, including a strong focus on working with family and community
- meets the intent of new Human Rights legislation
- is easily adaptable to ongoing strengths-based and collaborative work in the areas of restorative practice and transition to success
- is consistent with approached to train and support staff in trauma informed practices, inside and outside of the centre.
- The Team Leader supervises a team of professional staff to ensure the provision of high-quality professional client support services to detained young people which are consistent with departmental policies and programs, and which are culturally appropriate.

Key responsibilities
What we are looking for
**The Team Leader key responsibilities are**:

- Supervise a team of professional staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality youth justice client support services in accordance with relevant legislative provisions and departmental policies, practice standards and procedures.
- Ensure that all members of the work team contribute to, implement and maintain the client case management, planning and review processes with an emphasis on coordinated and integrated service response.
- Balance case work practice with the safety and security needs of young people, the centre and the community.
- Allocate, prioritise and quality assure individual tasks.
- Oversee the suicide risk management process in youth detention
- Provide on-going recruitment, selection, development and culturally appropriate supervision and leadership to team members
- Provide expert advice and assistance on complex client support matters.
- Participate as a member of the youth detention centre management team and contribute to strategic and operational planning, reviews and key decision-making.
- Develop collaborative, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate cooperation on case related matters.
- Assist in identifying trends and issues in client service delivery and evaluating client outcomes, including performance reporting, to ensure coordinated local service delivery.
- Allocate, prioritise and perform tasks in accordance with departmental procedures and financial and administrative delegations
