**About the role**

Mater Education has an exciting opportunity a talented **Learning Support Advisor** to join the team based at Mater’s South Brisbane Campus in a permanent and full-time capacity.

Mater Education is a leader in clinical education and a nationally, accredited, independent, hospital-based RTO, the only one of its kind in Queensland. With world-class clinical simulation programs, facilities and faculty, we deliver contemporary, interprofessional workforce training and simulation services across a wide range of sectors including health, aged and residential care, direct to the community.

Our students require support as they navigate the demands of their studies, practical placements, and career planning. The Learning Support Advisor role works closely with Educators to provide academic and social support and facilitate student engagement with our programs. The role is part of a small team of advisors who provide specialist support in areas such as pathways, numeracy, language and literacy, and learning needs.

**Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and **access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900** + **access to many staff benefits

**What you’ll be doing**

Typical duties of the role include:

- Provide timely, targeted and inclusive front-line academic learning services and strategies to support the development of Mater Education students
- Provide effective and high-quality coaching and counselling to support students who may be experiencing difficulties adjusting to the study environment
- Liaise with program educators to monitor needs within the student body
- Prepare quality learning support resources for use by students and other educators in program delivery
- Provide feedback on curriculum and suggest and action improvements to program resources
- Deliver virtual and face-to-face support services workshops for students
- Provide documentation, reports and record keeping that helps to identify student progress
- Undertake operational tasks as required for the effective delivery of support services and initiatives
- Undertake professional development to maintain currency in education practices
- Actively participate in and support improvements within the department

There will be the opportunity to **specialise within the learning support** **role** in one or more of the areas of: career planning, medical calculations, high needs support or language development. Therefore, we would ask that applicants have an interest and background in performing one or more of the following activities:

- Liaise with industry and universities to help develop pathways advice, provide careers guidance, organise careers days each semester, and represent Mater Education at school careers days
- Develop resources and provide advice to students undertaking medical calculations including ratios and conversions
- Develop resources and provide support for writing and research-based assessments
- Develop resources for and provide learning support to students who have specific learning needs such as dyslexia or level 1 autism

**About you**
- Proven experience in promoting and teaching others to develop the strategies needed to engage effectively in learning and personal development in physical (face-to-face) and virtual environments within a secondary / tertiary education environment
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues that affect adult learning development, retention and success in tertiary education
- Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with a diverse range of student and staff stakeholders
- Highly effective written, verbal and digital communication skills

In order to specialise in one or more of the areas of career planning, medical calculations, higher needs support or language support it would be good to have one or more of the following:

- Knowledge of issues surrounding the transition to further studies and work opportunities or desire to learn
- Career counselling background or desire to learn
- AHPRA job role specifications or desire to learn
- Confidence in developing resources and providing tutoring around ratios and conversions or a desire to learn
- Understanding of approaches involved in improving academic writing and research
- Understanding of strategies used to structure learning consultations and resources so that they provide for learners with higher learning needs
