Primary Purpose of Role: Manage and lead software team. Be involved in all aspects of software engineering duties. Assist in relation to estimating software engineering activities.

Objectives:
- Lead software team. Ensure software engineers are employed with adequate competencies and are trained as required on an ongoing basis.- Create work schedule for software team. Allocate work to software team with all information required.- Set deadlines for work completion and assist software engineers as required.- Ensure all software related staff are following company procedures for the development of software.- Ensure all software engineers are trained and use the company software tools (Surround, Test-Track etc.)- Review customer system requirements to understand detail of work required to deliver.- Assist General Manager/Project Manager/Product Group Manager in the estimating of software related work required for quotations.- Encompassing hours required for the related activities such as document preparation, coding, testing and other costs.- Assist software engineers in the submission of documentation for software projects such Functional Specifications, Operator Interface Specification etc. Including the control of all documents internal/external with the tools provided by the company.- Assist software engineers in coding and other aspects of their work. Assist System Engineers in system architecture definition and inoperability of system components.- Communicate with other Wabtec divisions (e.g. Wabtec Railway Electronics - WRE) globally in projects where joint co-operation with sister companies is required.- Participate in periodical Project Management meetings to give input on behalf of the software team.- Participate in customer meetings for implementation and optimisation of software and to resolve problems.- Perform other related duties as required.

Contacts (Internal/External)- General Manager, Product Group Manager and Project Manager in relation to tendering activities and project management activities for software related projects.- Wabtec software team.- Customer engineering team.

Skills and Qualifications- Tertiary Degree - Bachelor of Engineering or Computer Science.- Competent and qualified in embedded C++, C software, QNX, Windows with good understanding of UNIX and Linux operating systems.- Working knowledge of industrial ethernet, Wi-Fi, LTE data networks and serial communication protocols.- Ten years related experience in embedded systems, QNX and Windows.- Related team leading experience with minimum five years experience in a team leader role.- Equivalent combination of education and experience.- Preference to personnel with understanding of technical issues that arise within the rail industry i.e. on-board locomotive electronic systems, signalling etc.- Effective communication skills. Ability to inspire team members and obtain best attributes of each team member.
