Our client is a government department which represents Australia's national interests across Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

**Who we are**
The Operations Division consists of the Communication and Media Branch, the People Strategy, Safety and Wellbeing Branch and the Capability and Employment Branch. The division ensures the department has a strong and well-supported workforce with the capability and capacity to deliver on the Government’s climate change and energy agenda and protect Australia’s environment and water resources. The division also ensures that information about the department’s work in support of this agenda is both available to, and understood by, the Australian public.

The HSW function is moving to a ‘Hub and Spoke’ model - recognising the critical and interdependent nature of each team within the function to achieving successful health, safety, and wellbeing solutions, keeping our people safe, and ensuring that safety is at the centre of all we do. The HSW Hub designs and manages the department’s enterprise (HSW) Management System and HSW Information System to minimize the risk of injury and illness. We coach and guide our people on HSW matters and provide HSW advice and support for each division. The HSW Operations Sections are responsible for the consistent implementation of HSW systems, strategy and standards across all Groups and Divisions. Our operational team are the ‘boots on the ground’ who play a pivotal role in enabling the department to have a unified approach to implementing HSW by providing oversight, guidance, and support to front-line staff, managers and SES.

**The Job**
The Job As the HSW Assistant Director (Operations) - Operational Partnerships, you will report to the HSW Operations Director. You will act as a key conduit between the Groups you support, specifically, Supervising Scientist Branch and other Divisions within the Department, the HSW hub and other operational HSW teams.

You will be responsible for, but not limited to:

- managing and overseeing a team of HSW Advisors and professionals, providing coaching, mentoring and advice to achieve departmental and team goals
- ensuring client groups have developed operational HSW management plans, and supporting their continual improvement, ensuring alignment with the Department’s WHS Strategic Plan
- supporting client groups with their transition to the Department’s WHS information system and support with the online incident reporting and management system (SIRUS)
- partnering with client groups to undertake HSW risk profiling activities and ensure all risks have controls and mitigation plans in place
- ensure HSW hub is aware and understands the operating context of the Departments operational areas and ensures the Departments policies are fit for purpose and meet operational areas requirements
- supporting national initiatives, including critical incident management and flexible seating.

You will work closely with local management and the Property team on HSW matters for success in this role, you will have operational HSW expertise in a large and diverse organisation.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
- At least 5-7 years’ experience in a comparable role, with experience leading others will be highly desirable.
- Experience in promoting advances in safety culture and safety systems.

**Skills and capabilities**
You will have the ability to:

- function autonomously, working in collaboration with other Assistant Directors to delivering quality outcomes
- lead a team of diverse skill sets and backgrounds, coach, and mentor employees, undertake performance management, conflict resolution, and identification of training needs
- manage teams and timelines effectively to meet objectives and goals
- communicate efficiently and effectively about HSW risks, frameworks, policies, and procedures to employees of diverse skill sets, language and cultural backgrounds
- manage stakeholders and building and maintain effective workplace relationships
- adapt and work flexibly and effectively in times of uncertainty or major change
- influence, negotiate and provide trusted advice on HSW operations, systems and processes
- communicate HSW performance data upwards and downwards, identifying trends and providing insights for a range of audiences
- understand and communicate priorities, monitor progress, anticipate potential changes and drive delivery of HSW programs
- identify innovative HSW solutions and support their implementation
- consider a diverse range of stakeholder needs, accounting for the broad range of operational and cultural contexts in which the departm
