**The Role**
The Student Learning and Disability Branch is seeking to fill multiple policy Assistant Director positions.
The Branch is responsible for a wide range of interesting and challenging policies and programs that support children and students experiencing disadvantage and exclusion, as well as matters relating to the Australian curriculum.
**Disability Standards for Education team**: The Assistant Director within this team is responsible for assisting with the leadership of policy advice on the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards. This includes assisting with departmental oversight of the implementation of the recommendations from the 2020 Review of the Standards, development of new information products for the community and progressing legislative amendments.
**Disability Strategy and Schooling Policy team**: The Assistant Director within this team has policy responsibility for inclusion of students with disability in schools, as well as whole of department leadership on disability strategy. The Assistant Director is responsible for policy development and advice to government, driving the department’s implementation of Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031 and leading the department’s engagement with current national reviews and the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
**Skills and Capabilities**
We are seeking an individual with the following skills and capabilities:
- Strategic thinking skills - strong analytical and problem-solving skills to independently develop high quality and timely advice and shape policy development and/or implementation, and legislative reform priorities and program deliverables.
- Written and verbal communication skills - able to deliver clear, concise, and compelling messages that are fit for purpose and the audience, for example preparing advice to senior executives and government and/or written material to support legal teams and legislative drafters to draft amendments as well as explanatory and guidance materials for education stakeholders.
- Collaboration and consultation skills - including the ability to build internal and external relationships, consult with stakeholders, and work effectively with colleagues across the branch, department and other Australian Government agencies.
- Flexibility - the ability to respond to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment and deliver high quality results.
- Leadership and Teamwork - ability to perform a leadership role with initiative and accountability for achieving results and to work productively as a member of a team and branch, collaborating with colleagues, taking appropriate responsibility, and exercising judgement.
