**Description of the Centre**:
POW Place Child Care Centre is a Community based Child Care Centre which provides permanent care for children three months to five year of age between the hours of 6.45am and 6.00pm. Total number of children licensed for per day is 53.

**Salary**:
Salary in accordance with award MA000120 - Children’s Services Award 2010.
**Summary/Objectives of Position**:
The principle objectives of the position include:
- To ensure each child is recognised and treated as a unique individual by providing an anti-biased social and educational program.
- To assist in providing an innovative and high quality long day care program for children in terms of early childhood education and care. This program is to meet the individual child’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs, including children with additional needs.
- To cover for other staff whilst they are on leave and whilst they are on release time.
- To meet the child care needs of families and to develop relationships which support the families.
- To assist the management to ensure the Centre is run in accordance with specific guidelines and policies set out by ACECQA-(Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority), ECECD-(New South Wales Early Education and Care Directorate, Department of Education and Communities) and other legislative bodies and POW Place specific policies and procedures.

**HOW TO APPLY**
**1. Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
**Essential Criteria**:
1.1.1Certificate III in Children’s services (CHC30708).
1.1.2 Eligible for employment under the Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998, and the Commission and Young People Act 1998.
1.1.3 Experience providing high quality care and education for children up to 5 years including babies.
1.1.4 Awareness of government regulations, guidelines and policies relating to child care and WH&S.
1.1.5 Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
1.1.6 Current First Aid Certificate, (HLTAID006 or HLTAID004) or willingness to complete before appointment.
**DESIRABLE CRITERIA**
1.2.1 Competency in computer and word processing skills.
2. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES OF THE POSITION
**In Reference to Administration the Educator must have the ability to**:
2.1.1 Ensure accurate records in relation to children and all other activities/issues in the Centre.
2.1.2 Assist with orientation for new children, families and staff, as directed by the Centre Director and the Supervisors.
2.1.3 To prepare for and attend meetings as directed by the Centre Director.
2.1.4 To have a basic knowledge of government funding and administrative functions within the Centre.
2.1.5 Provide ongoing support and assistance to the Centre Director in all areas as the need arises.
**In Reference to the Centre the Educator must have the ability to**:
2.2.1 Participate in ongoing educational programs and in-service training as required.
2.2.2 Abide by all the Centre’s policies and procedures.
2.2.3 Comply with the AECA Code of Ethics.
2.2.4 Actively participate in the National Quality Framework process.
2.2.5 Maintain confidentiality in relation to matters concerning POW Place, children and their families and other staff and any relationships formed with families outside the centre. This relates to all forms of communication including verbal and written media (refer to the Privacy Act 1988).
2.2.6 Ensure the centre and equipment is maintained in a clean and tidy manner.
2.2.7 Take responsibility for the safety of the Centre’s environment and equipment.
2.2.8 Obtain a Food Handlers Certificate.
2.2.9 Perform any other duties, within the scope of the position, as specified by the Centre Director.
**In Reference to the Program the Educator must have the ability to**:
2.3.1 Create an environment where the children of POW Place are provided with a program and resources that are based on the best, up to date theoretical and practical knowledge about early childhood, early childhood education and child development. This includes the Emergent Curriculum and the Value of Play, following directions from the Centre Director and Supervisors.
2.3.2 Participate in some training and private study to keep abreast with current trends and practices in the Early Childhood Industry.
2.3.3 Follow guidelines in regard to the planning, implementation and evaluation of a quality, reflective program, where applicable and support and assist other staff to document the program and keep up to date with children’s individual portfolios. Following directions from Centre Director and Supervisors.
