General IT Officer Volunteer - Job Description

Position Summary

The General IT Officer Volunteer plays a crucial role in supporting the technological infrastructure and office operation of Buddhist Council of NSW (BCNSW). This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain practical experience in IT support and general technical assistance within a non-profit or community-focused environment. The volunteer will work closely with staff and other volunteers to ensure the smooth operation of IT systems, troubleshooting issues, and providing user support.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Support and Troubleshooting
- Provide first-line technical support to staff and volunteers, addressing hardware and software issues.
- Diagnose and resolve common IT problems, including connectivity issues, software glitches, and printer malfunctions.
- Escalate complex technical issues to appropriate personnel or external support as needed.

System Maintenance and Administration
- Support the administration of user accounts and permissions for various IT systems.
- Help maintain an accurate inventory of IT equipment and software licenses.
- Assist with establishing routine maintenance tasks, such as software updates, system backups, and security checks.
- Assist in creating and updating IT documentation, including user guides and troubleshooting procedures.
- Assist with the deployment and management of IT equipment as needed.

QualificationsEssential
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and operating systems (Windows).
- Familiarity with common office productivity suites (e.g. Google Workspace).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and helpful demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving IT needs.
- A commitment to BCNSW mission and values.

Desirable
- Previous experience in IT support or a related technical role.
- Knowledge of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, basic routing).
- Experience with EspoCRM
- Relevant IT certifications or pursuing a degree in IT or a related field.

Time Commitment
- Approximately 2-4 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment, with potential for extension
- Flexible scheduling, hybrid arrangement. Onsite visit may be required when solving issues.
