**The opportunity**:
About your new team
The Reproductive Genetics Carrier Screening (RGCS) laboratory provides a reproductive screening service (prepair) based on a combination of laboratory workflows required for the delivery of cystic fibrosis (CF), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and Fragile X (FXS) testing. The Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) laboratory provides a prenatal screening service (percept) based on massively parallel sequencing (MPS) of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) isolated from maternal plasma. Both laboratories have a commercial focus and aim to produce high quality test results in a rapid manner. The laboratory services are supported by a team of genetic counsellors who provide educational and clinical support to patients and their doctors. In addition to its commercial focus, the laboratories aim to be an innovative leader in the provision of cfDNA analysis and reproductive genetic carrier screening analysis at a national and international level.
**Your responsibilities include**:
To be a point of reference for troubleshooting patient samples (e.g. seek missing patient demographic data, clinical information, billing information, clinician contact details, clarify if samples fall outside acceptable limits).
Act as a liaison for the RGCS and NIPT laboratories within the organisation.
Communicate with doctors (or representatives) on the need for repeat sample collections and help coordinate as required.
Undertake other support services within the Reproductive Genetics Group (NIPT, Reproductive Genetic Carrier Screening, Maternal Serum Screening) to ensure the efficient provision of the services as required or directed.
**What we need from you**:
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or equivalent and/or a Certificate or Associate Diploma in an area of health science/practice.
Medical administration, or service sector experience advantageous.
Understanding of specimen reception and patient information systems advantageous.
Ability to work to a high standard of accuracy as is required in a diagnostic laboratory.
General computer skills including familiarity with standard word processing programs.
