**Where you fit in**
You will leverage your experience and expertise in direct stakeholder engagement with Traditional Owners (TO) and overseeing and implementing formal agreements, such as ILUAs and Indigenous Participation Plans, to develop and deliver Indigenous engagement and participation strategies and outcomes to directly strengthen Shell’s local license to operate. This will seek to ensure we meet all the requirements in our existing agreements as part of the broader Indigenous Partnership and Cultural Heritage (IPCH) team.
You will work across performance units and functional areas to oversee monitoring, reporting and development of strategies and relationships with TO groups to manage the risk exposure of the business, as well as overseeing the strategic direction of the relationship management delivery by the IPCH team on a range of commitments. This extends to monitoring and reporting on the management of unique and complex business risks to country leadership (such as operational, legal, reputational, non-technical and technical) associated with the complexities and nuance of delivering Shell’s native title, cultural heritage and Indigenous participation obligations.
The IPCH team also operates within our broader social performance strategy with the overall objective creating a positive presence and legacy in the communities and countries in which we operate to gain community acceptance for Shell’s business objectives. This is crucial for our ambition to strengthen our license to operate and demonstrate that we are a responsible company.
You will draw upon your direct experience to develop strong relationships with Shell’s Traditional Owners groups and their legal representatives by regularly engaging and working collaboratively to develop targeted and multi-focal Indigenous engagement and participation strategies.
In this role you will be required to draw on relevant experience building and managing relationships with a wide range of business and cross-functional teams across Shell, partnering with these stakeholders to deliver these strategies, including:
- Shell Legal
- Asset & Planning
- Cultural Heritage Team
- Corporate Relations Team
- National Social Performance Team
- Human Resources; and
- Contracts & Procurement
**What’s the role?**
The overall objective of this role is to support Shell’s delivery of Indigenous participation and Agreement performance (ILUAs etc.), cultural heritage delivery, and broader social performance objectives. You will support and report to the National Indigenous Affairs Manager to develop and implement the Indigenous engagement strategy and associated Indigenous Participation Plan for the Indigenous communities with whom Shell works.
You will support the IPCH team to deliver Shell’s commitments to Indigenous communities, managing social risks and building Shell’s brand by delivering Indigenous engagement and participation objectives.
Your accountabilities include the following:
**Indigenous Engagement**
- Act autonomously as a key/formal company contact point for communication and engagement with Indigenous group representatives, including face-face meetings, ensuring and supporting positive long-term Indigenous group relationship development and engagement. Develop annual relationship strategies for specific Traditional Owner groups, including key objectives and planned engagement
- Monitoring and reporting on the efficacy of strategies and relationships with TO groups to manage the risk exposure of the business
- Prepare budgets, financial oversight and organization of face-face meetings with Indigenous groups in line with Shell Agreement targets and stakeholder requirements
- Collaboratively develop and deliver project plans, implementation plans, and monitoring and evaluation plans, to support the delivery of Shell’s QGC Asset Indigenous Participation Plans.
- Understand legacy relationships and risks to provide guidance on how impacts by project activity on Indigenous communities are managed.
- Develop Indigenous Agreement implementation plans including the co-ordination of relevant inputs from internal stakeholders and aligning business priorities.
- Provide guidance on and support delivery of social investment programs to Aboriginal communities.
- Identification and communication to relevant internal stakeholders of potential risks/ issues which may arise and escalation where necessary.
- Participate in and deliver global Shell network events and activities.
**Indigenous Participation**
- Support and develop strategies for Shell to meet or exceed its Indigenous targets for training, employment and contracting opportunities.
