This pivotal role will drive transformation across all aspects of the finance function through a contemporary, people-centric and customer-focused approach. This is a rare opportunity for a contemporary leader to partner with the executive team and utilise influence to streamline processes, modernise systems and reinvigorate the employee experience, all whilst holding accountability for a function that is integral to the success of Council.

**Reporting to the Director Corporate Services and Business Innovation, your key responsibilities will be**:

- Lead and manage the operations and outputs of the Financial Services department including all statutory requirements involved in policy setting, budgeting, reporting, business plan development, rating, accounts receivable and payable, payroll and taxation to ensure Council is financially sustainable and achieving excellent financial performance.
- Provide specialist strategic and operational advice to the Council, Executive Leadership Team and Budget Managers through a business partner approach in relation to Australian Accounting Standards, legislation, regulations, and Council’s financial policies and procedures.
- In collaboration with the Manager Corporate Services influence improved financial risk outcomes, objectives and performance improvement by actively implementing Council’s risk management policy, framework and systems and ensuring alignment with the current better practice model in Local Government.
- Oversee the management of Council’s Audit Committee, external financial audit contract, audit plan and audit activity.
- Influence an agenda of high quality and consistent customer service delivery to internal and external stakeholders, prioritising customer experience whilst balancing the legislative requirements associated with Financial Services delivery areas.
- Act as a financial management advocate, influencing and managing stakeholder relationships whilst providing expert advice and information on emerging issues that may impact continuous improvement and compliance.
- Lead the team with transparency, alignment and clarity by setting clear expectations regarding work priorities and Directorate and organisational vision and goals.

**To be successful in this role, you will need**:

- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or related coupled with CA/CPA Qualification
- Demonstrated and successful senior management experience within the Financial Services field.
- High level knowledge and understanding of financial management including financial and management accounting and taxation management.
- Demonstrated and successful experience leading in a people-centric and contemporary manner whilst driving transformation and change across people, process and systems.
- Sound understanding of financial governance principles and legislative frameworks relevant to local government.
- Experience in policy, process and organisational systems design and implementation.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adjust communication style according to various audiences and transition technical concepts into language that is easily understood.
- Must be willing to undergo a medical assessment and obtain a police check as part of the recruitment process.
