In the role of Principal Planner you will lead the delivery of active transport planning projects across the state and support the Director (Active Transport) by:

- Providing technical guidance for a broad range of complex/sensitive/large transport planning initiatives.
- Contributing to developing and maintaining constructive communications and collaborative relationships with other parts of TMR, as well as external agencies, key partners, and stakeholders.
- Providing support to other members within the team.

**Accountabilities include**:

- Lead active transport projects across the state, ensuring that all planning is undertaken in a multi-modal, integrated, affordable and value for money context.
- Lead monitoring and reporting on the delivery of the Queensland Walking Strategy and Action Plan for Walking, and lead update of the Action Plan and progress reports against the plan.
- Lead the implementation of key actions under the Action Plan for Walking, support implementation of actions under the Queensland Cycling Action Plan and oversee delivery of actions delivered by other members of the planning team.
- Provide technical leadership and supervision of the two other members of the planning team, including day to day supervision of work priorities and tasks, leading performance discussions, providing mentoring and coaching.
- Identify strategic needs and priorities for development of active transport networks and facilities including options and recommendations for specific issues.
- Lead stakeholder engagement, including developing effective working relationships with local governments, industry groups, relevant departmental divisions, stakeholder groups and affected landowners.
- Provide expert, strategic advice to the Director (Active Transport) and senior officers in relation to project risks, issues and opportunities.
- Provide effective planning outcomes to ensure that active transport requirements are clearly defined, and key stakeholders are aware of the project and preferably support the project.
- Prepare complex ministerial correspondence, project reports, presentations, briefing notes, submissions and other general correspondence.
- Contribute to the positive working environment of the division, including participating in ongoing business improvement processes and mentoring junior staff members.
- Actively participate in performance conversations to build and support a culture of performance improvement.

This role reports to the Manager (Cycling and Walking) and will have two direct reports.
