
Policy Officer, Surgery Recovery and Reform

The Policy Officer will provide advice and contributes to the delivery of key initiatives as part of the Planned Surgery Recovery and Reform Program (the Program) within the Governance and Reporting team. This includes tracking the key elements of the Program (such as funding and delivery), supporting the key department committees that provide oversight, and ensuring that reporting, and underlying data systems accurately reflect and monitor progress of the Program.
To be successful in this role, you will be a high performing team member with strong analytical, problem solving, project management, written and communication skills. You may offer specialist skills in data analytics, health systems, government processes, stakeholder consultation, policy design, or program implementation. You will work closely with team members and other partners to support defining problems, analysing qualitative and quantitative inputs, consulting stakeholders, and developing options and creative, implementable solutions.
Accountabilities
- Assist in providing advice, reasoned recommendations and innovative solutions to complex and sensitive issues based on comprehensive research.
- Assist in developing policy initiatives that meet government and departmental objectives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
- Assist in the monitoring and reporting of high priority issues, risks and trends and support the development of accurate reports, ministerial briefs, Cabinet and department submissions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate collaboration across the department and with key external stakeholders.
- Share your expertise with others to contribute to the capability across the team and broader department.
- Work across multiple projects, including engaging with stakeholders, and working in multidisciplinary teams to meet emerging pressures and demands, as required.
- Respond flexibly and adapt approaches in order to deliver outcomes in the face of uncertainty.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
