The Principal Policy Officer will be contributing to a range of programs and projects that will improve collaboration between health services to deliver more integrated patient care and improve health outcomes.
The role will be part of the Surgery Recovery and Reform team that is responsible for managing and monitoring implementation of additional planned surgery activity that is being delivered as part of the Government's $1.5 billion Surgery Reform and Recovery Plan.
Demonstrating relevant experience and expertise in information gathering, thoughtful analysis, robust project management and monitoring, and stakeholder engagement, the role will support the key government committees that provide oversight of the plan, ensuring that reporting, and underlying data systems accurately reflect and monitor progress, as well as lead on the delivery of key initiatives under the Plan.
To be successful in this role, you will be a high performing team member with strong policy development and systems thinking skills; complemented by superior communication, problem solving, and project management capabilities. You will work closely with team members and other partners to define problems, analyse qualitative and quantitative inputs, consult stakeholders, and develop options and creative, implementable solutions.
Accountabilities
- Provide high quality business intelligence, authoritative advice and sound policy and project recommendations to senior management and government based on comprehensive research and analysis.
- Review and report on high priority issues, risks and trends using health service data and prepare and present comprehensive and accurate reports, ministerial briefs and cabinet and agency submissions on complex issues.
- Oversee the development of policy and project initiatives that meet government and departmental objectives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
- Share your expertise with others with a focus on building capability across the team and broader department.
- Work across multiple projects, including designing and managing complex projects, and lead multi-disciplinary teams to meet emerging and significant work pressures and demands, as required.
- Pro-actively build and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate collaboration across the department and with key external stakeholders.
- Respond flexibly and adapt approaches in order to deliver outcomes in the face of uncertainty.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
