**Who we are**
The Environmental Permitting and Compliance Division is looking for people passionate about regulation and the environment. It is an exciting time to join the division within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. We are a modern regulator that works to a high professional standard to deliver better practice regulation. The Compliance and Enforcement Branch (CEB) undertakes compliance and enforcement regulatory activities under a range of Commonwealth environmental legislation. We work with business, industry, government and the community to understand and improve compliance with national environmental law. The branch conducts civil and criminal investigations, collects and analyses environmental intelligence, monitors compliance with environmental approvals, and engages with the communities we regulate.
The Compliance Strategy and Planning Section is the central compliance coordination point for the CEB with a wide breath of responsibilities including undertaking transitional work to enable the CEB to integrate into the EPA, develop compliance strategies for the department’s environmental legislation in coordination with internal and external stakeholders and complete and publish Compliance Plans that ensures alignment with risk profile and priority and resource allocation. We provide secretarial services for senior environmental executive committees and coordinate parliamentary briefing packs as required. A big focus for the team is working on and implementing a range of major regulatory reform projects to ensure we are continuously improving.
**The job**
- Undertake research tasks with very tight deadlines that focus on key compliance and enforcement work.
- Coordinate key projects that support the environmental compliance and reform agenda covering standard operating procedures, manuals, performance reporting, placemat, road maps and briefing material.
- Provide secretarial support for senior compliance committees.
- Coordinate senate estimates briefs on behalf of the CEB.
- Undertake reporting on a range of matters that cover the environmental compliance domain.
- Assist in the range of statutory and corporate reporting requirements including business planning thus ensuring alignment with the departmental corporate plan.
- Contribute to the business intelligence of the CEB in building and sustaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the establishment of a Program and Project management methodology to ensure adherence to best practice and making recommendations to ensure corrective action is taken in a timely way.
- Provide assistance across the section when tasks are required to be completed timely.

- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Experience in preparing, coordinating, contributing to and quality assuring a range of written material, producing placemat, roadmaps, including briefs, agenda papers, reports, talking points, presentations, background briefings and ministerial correspondence.
- Team members who contribute to CEB objectives, drive a positive culture, and understand the context of where things fit in.
- Working in changing environments with tight timeframes.
- Ability to supporting and enhance compliance and enforcement capability building.
- Ability to make decisions based on evidence and data.
- Experience in reforming business processes to deliver outcomes efficiently and aligning with legislation.
- Experience working closely and collaboratively with senior executive and leadership, providing advice and guidance on a range of issues, including divisional priorities, governance arrangements, staffing and business planning.
- An understanding of the compliance and enforcement domain in the environment context.
