**Legal Specialist**:
NSW - Sydney CBD Legal, Workers Compensation Full Time

**THE ROLE**

The Life & Casualty unit includes complete end to end management of claims arising from accident & health and life insurance schemes, transport accident schemes and public liability claims. Key duties include managing a portfolio of public liability claims, providing legal and technical advice on identified adverse decisions and complex matters, provide advice on pre court dispute resolution processes under statutory motor accident schemes and life insurance schemes, undertake legal research, advise on claim strategies, and undertake legal project work for the Life & Casualty business.

This role can be based in **Sydney**, **Adelaide** or **Brisbane** and includes flexible work from home working arrangements.

**YOUR RESPOSIBILITIES**
- Contribute to the Life & Casualty Team to ensure engagement objectives are met and individual team member performance is achieved.
- Providing legal and technical advice on life & casualty team claims, (CTP, Public Liability and Life Insurance) to enable sound, evidence-based and legally accurate decision making.
- Proactively identify and assess WPI applicable claims and minor / non-minor claims under the NSW CTP scheme and provide relevant advice and recommendations to the Group Manager, Team Leader, and Case Managers.
- Manage a portfolio of public liability claims from claim inception to settlement across all Australian States and Territories. Undertake key tasks including but not limited to: claim assessment and liability decision making, evidence collection, settlement and instruction of legal panel and counsel as required.
- Keeping up to date with case law and precedents affecting life insurance claims and statutory insurance (CTP) claims
- Collecting and reporting on identified scheme trends and individual cases.
- Provide assistance with advice and/or drafting of legal notices and correspondence and medico-legal briefs.

**ABOUT YOU**
- Bachelor of Laws or other tertiary studies in personal injury/workers compensation, legal studies/jurisprudence and alternative dispute resolution considered favourably
- Current unrestricted legal practice certificate considered favourably
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role with strong claims management experience including litigation and working within a personal injury environment
- Extensive experience in CTP claims pre court procedures, common law claims and litigation.
- Excellent understanding of the NSW statutory insurance legislation and the associated regulations
- Ability to support, coach and assist team members and internal clients
- Sound legal, insurer, business, regulator, or alternative dispute resolution experience.
