**Who are we looking for?**
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Project and Administration Officer to join School of Biology and Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, Academic Division.
The successful development and delivery of projects is fundamental to the productivity, reputation and success of the Centre. The Project and Administration Officer is responsible for supporting Research Program operations, governance, and research and consultancy projects within the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy. The role will work collaboratively with senior professional and academic investigators within the Centre, in conjunction with staff from Finance Operations, Finance Resource Management, the Office of Research Services, Marketing and Communications, together with professional staff from various Faculties as required.
We’re offering this role as a hybrid position as part of QUT’s commitment to embracing the opportunities created by a more virtual and connected world.
**Real world impact**
QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.
The Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy (CAB) brings together a unique mix of international expertise in plant biotechnology, process engineering, industrial chemistry and commercialisation, creating a continuum of research and development from laboratory through to field demonstration and pilot plant production. CAB delivers international research and consulting solutions in biotechnology and biomass processing. It specialises in tropical agriculture and the high
- value biocommodities sector, and we support agricultural advancement in developing countries.
The Centre’s research focuses on crops that will have the biggest global impact and it includes bananas, sugarcane and tropical pulses. The development of “super bananas” is expected to lift the health and wellbeing of millions of people in East Africa The Centre is internationally recognised as a leader in developing innovative, real-world solutions for the sugar industry. Pulse crops such as chickpeas, mung beans and pigeon pea are some of the world’s most economical sources of protein.
The Centre’s research includes genetic manipulation for improving the nutritional status of food, disease resistance and stress tolerance in tropical crops; developing advanced techniques for disease diagnosis and control; and manufacturing high-value green chemicals, biofuels and other bioproducts from agricultural waste. The research outcomes make a significant contribution to improving tropical agriculture in Australia and developing countries in Africa, India and South-East Asia, helping to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges. Queensland is the ideal environment for developing the future generations of genetically enhanced tropical crops.
The Centre has co-located molecular biology laboratories, tissue culture facilities, plant growth rooms, and PC2 glasshouses, as well as extensive glasshouses and research farms located on the outskirts of Brisbane and North Queensland. It has access to the Central Analytical Research Facility (CARF), which is a multi-user facility providing equipment and services in DNA sequencing (including running PacBio Sequel, Illumina NextSeq and miSeq machines), Proteomic Analysis and Advanced Imaging, and is also predominantly located at Gardens Point.
