**Who are Robin AI?**
Robin AI is an exciting, venture-backed technology start-up using software, artificial intelligence and human intelligence to make contracts simple. Robin was established in 2019 by CEO Richard Robinson (a former City lawyer) and Chief Technology Officer James Clough (a theoretical physicist who works in Machine Learning) and is backed by some of the world’s most impressive companies and investors, including Forward Partners, Episode One, Google and Softbank.
At Robin AI, we create ground-breaking products that are transforming legal work. Our work is multi-disciplinary and brings together the best talent in engineering, AI and the law. At the heart of our offering is a traditional legal service which is being enhanced by cutting edge machine learning. We are looking for a bright legal mind to help us provide a world-class experience to our customers, support the development of our junior team members and maintain our exceptionally high service delivery standards.
**Why is this role important to Robin AI?**
This role is within the Legal and Product Team at Robin, and will involve working directly with investment teams at some of the world’s largest private equity and debt funds, financial institutions and corporates as they explore transaction opportunities. Equally, as our business and client-base continue to expand, we are looking to establish a permanent presence in Australia in order to service our APAC clientele. As we enter this next growth phase, you will be the APAC Team Lead tasked with expanding Robin’s Australia practice.
As an experienced legal professional and self-starter, you will have responsibility for managing and reviewing the work of junior team members and assisting with their professional development. You will also be interested in developing your leadership skills and developing a systems-based structure that works for your team. In addition, Robin offers fantastic opportunities for personal career development in a variety of areas alongside traditional legal work, including client onboarding and management, interviewing and hiring junior talent, product development, and ongoing customer success.
We are location-agnostic and will be guided by the presence of the best talent pool. Whether you are based out of Melbourne or Sydney, we will build the Australian office around you. This role will suit an experienced legal professional (whether an Australian qualified lawyer or associate, or an overseas qualified lawyer) who might be considering a position within an in-house legal team at an investment bank, fund, or asset management company. At Robin we are proud to call a large number of these institutions our clients, and our core transactional work covers many of the same areas and document types - but we work in a much more modern, creative and flexible way
**Requirements**:
**Sounds great What are my responsibilities?**
- Growing the Legal and Product team in Australia to a point of self-sufficiency.
- Reviewing and negotiating contracts such as confidentiality agreements, engagement letters and release letters, using a combination of Robin’s AI technology and your own legal experience.
- Helping establish and agree contract playbooks with current and new clients.
- Reviewing the work of junior team members and assisting with their professional development and ongoing training (all of which will also be available to you).
- Testing Robin’s technology products and feeding back issues, bugs and areas for improvement to our engineering and machine learning teams.
- As Robin continues to experience success, you will also have the chance to get involved in exciting business-related projects, including helping to support our future fundraising rounds.
**What about my skills?**
You will have at least 3-6 years’ experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating the core transactional documents regularly encountered by our clients (including confidentiality agreements, engagement letters and release letters). You will have previously worked with private equity, asset management or hedge fund clients, whether in-house, at a service provider or at a law firm, and will understand typical fund transaction structures and timelines.
You will enjoy taking the initiative and seeking answers to interesting practical and legal issues. You will be both technical and commercial, both in the practice of law and outside of it. You will be interested in developing your client management skills at a faster pace than might be possible elsewhere, and ideally, you’ll be looking forward to taking ownership of some of our client relationships in due course. Similarly, you will also be interested in developing your team management and leadership skills that may not otherwise be as readily available at your existing role. Last (but certainly not least), you will be motivated by working in a fast-paced, diverse, and intellectually challenging environment where collaboration
