As Principal Lawyer, you will act as the lead adviser on privacy and information governance issues, partnering with business leaders across operational and enabling service areas.

You'll guide responses to complex and sensitive matters involving personal and health information, support internal reviews and regulatory compliance, and advise on legislative obligations in a rapidly changing environment.

How will this role develop your career?

You'll report into a highly experienced legal leadership team and work closely with senior stakeholders across multiple service lines.

What work will you do?

You will:

• Provide strategic legal advice on privacy, data handling, information access, and confidentiality issues;
• Support internal reviews, complaints and investigation processes relating to privacy and information law;
• Lead responses to regulatory matters and liaise with oversight bodies;
• Develop privacy frameworks and support governance and compliance initiatives;
• Advise on legislative obligations across multiple business units;
• Assist with legal strategy and risk mitigation on related matters in dispute resolution and administrative law;
• Engage with panel firms and external legal advisers as needed.

What type of person will be successful?

You will be:

• Admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia;
• Experienced (6+ years PQE) in privacy and information law, ideally with exposure to both health and government-related legislation;
• A confident communicator able to engage with senior stakeholders on complex and sensitive matters;
• Familiar with legislation such as the Privacy Act, Health Records laws, and relevant administrative frameworks;
• Able to work independently while contributing to a broader legal team;
• Practical, commercially aware, and solutions-focused.

Experience within public sector bodies, regulators, or highly regulated industries such as health, insurance, or financial services will be highly regarded.
