**The Role**
The Australian Defence College (ADC) is currently seeking two experienced Work Health and Safety Managers at the APS 6 level. Reporting to the ADC Deputy Director of Governance and WHS, the role supports the continuous improvement, monitoring and maintenance of work health and safety outcomes for all stakeholders of ADC.

As part of your responsibilities you will be required to:

- Have a good understanding regarding the management of a safety environment where there are multiple duty holders;
- Develop, implement, manage and review the Safety Management System and all associated activities in line with Defence policy and procedure, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation is achieved;
- Manage and participate in both internal and external WHS Audit Programs, including engagement with external parties who have shared duties;
- Develop and deliver training and awareness programs incorporating legislative updates and lessons learned;
- Provide guidance and support to risk owners with regards to the management of risks, policies, processes and controls;
- Facilitate, review and document risk assessments and assist with the maintenance of the Risk Register;
- Undertake incident investigations to develop insights and improvement initiatives to increase safety by analysing and interpreting trend and performance data;
- Ensure that in line with legislative requirements, consultation and engagement activities align with the Safety Management System, and with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and manage processes to ensure that relevant safety data is able to support Enterprise level WHS issues;
- Represent the ADC WHS team in various internal forums such as the WHS committee, and;
- Monitor and report all WHS incidents, near misses and investigations, and update the chain of command personnel in accordance with established escalation protocols;

**About our Team**
The WHS manager directly supports the Australian Defence College (ADC) and Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) as Officers under the WHS Act 2011 (Commonwealth) and the related due diligence and duty of care requirements. The APS 6 WHS manager position sits within the ADC WHS team and is responsible for work health and safety activities. The WHS team supports senior leadership in Defence by providing high quality, timely and accurate advice on work health and safety matters. The position provides secretariat services for the ADFA Work Health and Safety committees.

In this role, the WHS Officer will require:

- A good working knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation and practices in a complex shared duty environment;
- Experience maintaining and updating a WHS Management System for a large private or government organisation;
- Collaborating with and providing well-structured advice to influence internal and external stakeholders;
- Working with senior staff (designated as officers under S27 of the WHS Act);
- Planning and prioritising work to tight deadlines and monitoring implementation of the work;
- Drawing appropriate insights from data, reports and analysis;
- Representing a WHS team at WHS related conversations, training and forums;
- Well-developed writing skills including briefs, reports, papers;
- Be proactive, resilient and organised, and;
- Strong ability to work with limited supervision and track the progress of multiple tasks in a fast paced and diverse environment.
