**The Role**
The Assistant Director, Research is a pivotal position with the ACMC in its work in the Civil Military Police discipline.
This position is responsible for the day to day management of the research program, interfacing with researchers and research organisations and managing the ACMC Research Framework.
The Assistant Director, Research operates under broad direction with scope to identify emerging issues and shape the concept of potential research projects. This includes providing the secretariat for the Multiagency Research Advisory Panel.
They also have the responsibility for planning the public release and launch of research activities across a wide variety of stakeholder groups.
The Assistant Director, Research also supports and participates in a range of activities such as workshops, exercises, capacity building activities and training. They are also encouraged to undertake professional development in the CIV-MIL-POL discipline and research related areas.
**About Our Team**
The Concepts and Capability Directorate brings together cross-agency programs on new and emerging civil-military-police concepts, such as Women, Peace and Security, with programs that support the development of civil-military-police capability through preparedness, lessons and evaluation, and humanitarian-government coordination.
This integrated approach to concept development, lessons, research, and preparedness allows the ACMC to:
- Foster new knowledge, inform policy development and create frameworks and guidelines for new and emerging civil-military-police issues and themes;
- Identify good practices and challenges in cross-agency cooperation, both through externally commissioned research that is publicly available and through the ACMC’s internal research and evaluation expertise that supports internal to government evaluation; and
- Design and deliver a preparedness program that further explores identified challenges, reinforces good practice in cross-agency cooperation and capability building and provides a forum for testing and operationalising new concepts and approaches.
To be successful in this role a professional research manager will be able to demonstrate familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research design, and the design and delivery of practically focused research outcomes.
They will also need a good knowledge of the Australian research community, including academic institutions, think tanks and private sector providers, or the capacity to acquire this knowledge quickly.
This role also requires substantive experience in copy editing and proof reading with excellent project management skills.
The Research Manager will require high level critical thinking and analysis skills and excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
They will have well-developed partnership brokering, team building and stakeholder engagement skills.
Finally, they will be able show considerable initiative, be self-motivated, resilient and able to work with limited direction.
