THE ROLE
- The Faculty of Science and Engineering

is seeking a self-motivated and proactive Business Manager to join our newly established

Australian Genome Foundry
- In this newly created role the successful applicant will have the opportunity to manage and deliver operational plans, provide strategic advice, contribute to business development and provide administration support for biofoundry operations. Initially the role will be a standalone operational support position with allocated budget for team resources as the biofoundry grows.

Reporting to the Director of the Biofoundry, the successful applicant will:
- Provide strategic advice, support and recommendations to the Director and key stakeholders and take a lead role in the development and implementation of operational and resourcing plans- Manage and provide operational and administration support across all business operations including from business and contract management to purchasing, reporting, finances & budgets, outreach, social media, communications and marketing- In consultation with the Director and Chief Scientific Officer, define service provision modes aligned to strategy, develop sustainable financial models and implement service level agreements for access to the foundry capability and service- Lead the annual budget development and oversee the regular tracking, review and reporting.- Develop and manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders across university functions & services, partners, clients, industry, funding and government bodies

About You

This role would suit an experienced manager or would be a great opportunity for someone with experience in general management, operations, finance and/or communications and marketing to broaden their skill base. Initially, you will be comfortable in a stand-alone role providing all levels of operational and administration support across business activities. More broadly, you will be a strategic thinker and relationship enabler who is confident in operational management and has the demonstrated ability to translate strategy into operational plans and guide others in the implementation of these.

You will possess strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and be known for your sound judgement and decision making. You will be skilled at negotiating and managing physical and financial resources to achieve organisational goals. You will have developed strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and be comfortable nurturing a collaborative and cooperative work environment across a variety of stakeholders in a service-oriented environment.

is a high-throughput strain engineering facility with a highly automated workflow. This means rather than having a researcher building one strain at a time manually, the same researcher could build hundreds or thousands of strains in parallel using robotic platforms. The

Australian Genome Foundry

is capable of synthesizing complete eukaryotic chromosomes and consists of modular robotic platforms capable of automated construction and analysis of synthetic microbial strains.
