In the role of Principal Planner you will play a key role in the Rail Planning Team within the Transport Strategy and Planning Branch of the Policy, Planning and Investment Division. The position contributes to delivering a significant and challenging program of work which will underpin the planned delivery of rail infrastructure and services in Queensland.

You will be required to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and project manage initiatives to ensure that the government's transport related priorities are achieved.

**Accountabilities include**:

- Supporting the Manager (Rail Planning) and Director (Rail Planning) in the delivery of planning and studies identifying rail investment priorities. These studies will include (but not be limited to) rail network corridor identification and capacity investigations, corridor operational assessments and engineering studies which will be used to identify rail infrastructure project operational specifications, scope, timeframes required for delivery and cost.
- Engaging and managing specialist consultant services to assist in delivery of studies and investigations.
- Ensure studies and investigations are completed within scope, timeframe and costs.
- Represent the department's rail planning interests by participating in working groups on major integrated planning activities.
- Develop and maintain constructive communications and collaborative relationships with the Rail Planning Team's broader Transport Planning Projects Section activities, other areas within Transport and Main Roads', external agencies, and key partners and stakeholders.
- Provide expert advice for the Minister, Director-General, General Manager (Transport Strategy and Planning), Executive Director (Transport Planning Projects) and Director (Rail Planning) in relation to analytical direction for studies and major projects associated with the development of the rail investment strategy.
- Prepare complex ministerial correspondence, reports, briefing notes, cabinet submissions and other general correspondence on behalf of the Minister, Director-General, General Manager and Executive Director.

This role reports to the Manager (Rail Planning).
