**Job status**: Ongoing
**Eligibility**: Open to Everyone
**The Opportunity**
We have an opportunity for a Dog Fence Program Manager to be part of our Biosecurity division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The Invasive Species Unit is focused primarily on the management of weeds and vertebrate pests declared under the _Landscape South Australia Act 2019_ and on the management of aquatic pests under the _Fisheries Management Act 2007_.
The Invasive Species Unit works closely with regional landscape boards, the Department for Environment and Water (DEW), and equivalent interstate agencies to achieve coordinated, strategic responses to new incursions and management of existing priority pest species. Wild dogs pose a significant threat to South Australia’s livestock industries.
The impacts of wild dogs on these industries led to the development of the _Dog Fence Act 1946_, which provides for the establishment and maintenance of dog-proof fences in South Australia. The SA Dog Fence Board was established to administer the _Dog Fence Act 1946_ to ensure that the Dog Fence is a barrier to all wild dogs, including dingoes.
The Dog Fence Program Manager will lead and manage the successful delivery of a range of projects relating to the management of the Dog Fence.
The role will work in conjunction with the SA Dog Fence Board to provide strategic and project management advice in relation to the management of South Australia’s 2,150 kilometre-long Dog Fence. The role contributes to delivering the agency’s priorities including stimulate growth and value, sustain the resource, and manage risk and recovery. The position will also assist the Dog Fence Board in consulting with and reporting back to stakeholders to ensure industry groups and land managers involved in funding the Dog Fence are kept informed of activities.
The incumbent will be required to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external to PIRSA, including private fence owners.
In addition to staff/contractors directly linked to maintenance and inspection of the fence, the role will be required to collaborate with Dog Fence boards and committees that are operating interstate to ensure a consistent, cohesive approach to the successful management of the Dog Fence.
