Dairysafe is the statutory authority responsible for administering South Australia’s dairy food safety scheme. Established on 1 July 1993, the Dairy Authority of South Australia, trading as ‘Dairysafe’, consists of three Members appointed by the Governor, one of whom is appointed as Chairperson. Dairysafe is accountable to the South Australian Government through the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development.

Dairysafe’s work as the accreditation body and overseeing the safe production of dairy products in South Australia is carried out by a small team of technical specialists. Dairysafe’s functions are outlined the _Primary Produce (Food Safety Schemes) Act 2004_ and in regulation 12 of the _Primary Produce (Food Safety Schemes) (Dairy) Regulations 2017_.

**The Opportunity**

It is expected the incumbent will build upon previous knowledge, experience and academic training under supervision of the Technical Manager and assist in the administration of the dairy food safety scheme. Activities cover accreditation, audit, inspection, investigation, verification, data analysis, compliance, and facilitating positive food safety culture.

**Key responsibilities**
- Audit accredited dairy farms, dairy transporters and dairy processors to verify compliance with food safety standards.
- Deliver optimal food regulatory outcomes including the advancement of ‘food safety culture’.
- Undertake a range of activities to ensure compliance by accredited businesses with regulated standards:

- Participate in Dairysafe’s response to incidents and complaints.
- Provide businesses with advice on food safety culture, food safety regulation and food standards.
- Undertake compliance and enforcement action.
- Provide prompt and accurate advice to stakeholders, including new businesses, on dairy food safety accreditation and food safety standards.
- Maintain close liaison and build trust with accredited businesses.
- Provide support to the Technical Manager and Senior Food Standards Officer.
- Work collaboratively within the auditing team to deliver and maintain a consistent approach to industry.
- Support the planning and execution of workshops, forums and events.
- Assist the development, implementation and maintenance of Dairysafe's ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
- Assist the development, implementation and maintenance of Dairysafe’s WH&S arrangements.
- Contribute to the maintenance and review of organisational systems and processes.
- Participate in, and contribute to, Dairysafe’s corporate objectives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in work practices, policies and procedures.
- Actively seek and engage in learning opportunities.
- Complete project work as part of Dairysafe’s annual operational plan.

**Terms and conditions of employment**
- Remuneration level is set at the PO1 classification stream (based on a 75hr/fortnight).
- Term contract, initially set at three (3) years.
- The Incumbent will be required to participate in the Dairysafe’s Performance Development Program.
- Regular travel and performance of duties throughout South Australian regional areas, requiring overnight stay.
- Adherence to the Code of Ethics for the South Australian Public Sector.

**Key Selection criteria**

Essential:

- An appropriate tertiary qualification in science, agriculture, food technology, food science or a other appropriate discipline.
- A current driver’s licence.
- To have or be prepared to attain Lead Food Safety Auditor qualification, including thorough knowledge of HACCP and quality assurance principles, within 6 months of employment commencing.
- To have or be prepared to achieve Auditor qualification at NFSA Level 2 within 6 months of employment commencing.
- To have or be prepared to achieve Auditor qualification at NFSA Level 4 within 18 months of employment commencing.
- To be eligible for this position applicants must be an Australian Citizen or hold a visa that permits you to work in Australia

Desirable:

- Understanding of food standards, HACCP, dairy hygiene, microbiology and risk assessment.
- Previous experience with food safety within the manufacturing and/or primary production environment.
