**Who we are**
The Aquatic Pest and Health Policy Section leads and co-ordinates national policy and program development for marine pest and aquatic animal health issues; contributes to enhanced marine pest and aquatic animal disease emergency preparedness and response; and provides leadership in international and regional marine pest and aquatic animal health activities.

**The Jobs**
We are looking for organised and analytical APS6 Policy Officers to work effectively in the Aquatic Pest and Health Policy Section (two positions). Duties will include:

- contributing expertise and technical knowledge to national policy and program development and implementation for marine pest and aquatic animal health issues
- leading management of projects and activities within the section and with external clients and suppliers
- proactively engaging with government, industry and domestic and international stakeholders on marine pest or aquatic animal health strategic priorities
- performing research and analysis to inform the provision of technical and policy advice on marine pest and aquatic animal health emergency issues
- fostering national networks for marine pests and aquatic animal health, to support stakeholder engagement and cooperation.

**Work Location**

**Please note** that this recruitment process will be used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions across the section listed above. If an offer of non-ongoing employment is made, the successful applicant would be employed for an initial period of 18 months with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of 3 years in total. Some of these non-ongoing positions may become ongoing in the next 18 months. Should a position become ongoing then the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of 18 months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may be used to fill the vacancy on an ongoing basis. The merit pool may also be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies in the division where the duties are of a similar nature.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
The successful applicants will have:

- knowledge of, or experience working in, an area of Australia’s aquatic industries or coastal environments, including shipping, fisheries, or aquaculture industries
- experience in marine pest or aquatic animal health research, policy development or management
- experience in developing and delivering programs and projects which support strategic objectives
- experience communicating complex ideas and issues to diverse stakeholder groups
- the ability to provide expert advice and interpretation of technical marine pest or aquatic animal health issues.
