APS5/APS6 Policy Officers & EL1 Assistant Director

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-regarded government department for multiple policy roles at the APS5, APS6 and EL1 levels.

Clearance: Baseline or higher clearance essential.

Employment type and length: Preference for non-ongoing candidates, however labour hire candidates will also be considered. Contracts through to 30 June 2026.

Location: Flexible working arrangements supported. Candidates can work remotely from one of the department's many offices across Australia, from home or in a hybrid capacity (mix of office and home-based work).

Role overview:

These roles will contribute to the design and delivery of government policy with significant regional implications. Work will involve developing policy advice, supporting whole-of-government decision-making, contributing to multilateral engagement and leading key projects such as national reports and ministerial briefings.

Key duties include:

  • Drafting strategic policy papers and briefings on opportunities and challenges facing regional Australia.
  • Supporting Cabinet and whole-of-government processes to ensure regional impacts are considered.
  • Coordinating Australia's engagement with international policy forums, reviewing research and preparing briefings for delegates.
  • Leading planning and delivery for major publications.
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

What we're looking for:

Experienced, high-performing APS5, APS6 and EL1 candidates with excellent communication, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working on cross-government and cross-portfolio issues and bring a collaborative approach to achieving outcomes.
