The position of Principal Organisation Design Adviser provides support to the Manager, Design, in maintaining oversight of Design work across the Department, and to coordinate and lead responses to high priority design work that shapes the department's organisational capabilities to align with strategic objectives.
The Principal Organisation Design Adviser will lead and facilitate senior leaders and teams through both programmatic and continuous design efforts, providing expert support and guidance to ensure successful execution. The Principal Organisation Design Adviser will lead an evidence-based approach including well founded research, good practice, new and innovative developments, learning about internal and external customer experiences and viewpoints, and using systemic thinking and analysis to inform strategic design solutions and recommendations. Additionally, the Principal Organisation Design Adviser will support the Manager, Design to recommend and implement service design, ensuring that all aspects of the organization's operations are optimised for efficiency and effectiveness developing strategic recommendations or policies, and prototyping, testing and iterating the design of a structure, product, service, process or policy.
The successful applicant will forge strategic partnerships with colleagues in the rest of Capability and Development unit, Business Partners and the whole Organisational Effectiveness branch, to understand where opportunities lie for systemic, human-centred design solutions, and to deliver plans for these solutions to internal customers.

**Suitable applicants will be able to**:
- Lead strategic design efforts through evidence based analysis, advice, and facilitation to ensure alignment with the department's strategic objectives across various initiatives by:
- supporting the development of current state operating models, including governance, policies, processes, structures, systems and ways of working,
- understanding business priorities and assist in the operationalisation of organisational strategies, conduct comprehensive systemic assessments and root cause analysis of current design components and identify opportunities for strategic and continuous improvement initiatives
- develop business cases for change that align with strategic objectives, including options analysis, feasibility, cost and benefit estimation, investment logic, and benefits management planning,
- provide guidance and authoritative advice to influence stakeholders and sponsors; prepare and present detailed, comprehensive reports and change proposals and associated documentation, management reporting on complex matters
- facilitate collaboration with cross-functional reams to explore business problems, ideate opportunities, and co-design and iterate improvements and solutions through engagements designed suitably for the audience
- Provide high quality business intelligence, authoritative advice and sound policy recommendations to senior management and government based on comprehensive research.
- Oversee the development of policy and initiatives that meet government and departmental objectives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
- Highly developed influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to use direct and indirect influencing strategies to gain agreement to proposals and ideas and explores alternatives to gain agreement without foregoing key objectives.
- Pro-actively build and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate the flow of information across the department and with key external stakeholders.
- Maintain an understanding of Commonwealth and State legislative and policy reform directions to influence policy development.
- Provide timely expert advice and develop open and effective communication strategies including collection of highly complex, contentious or sensitive information on matters of staff or business.
- Represent the department on key government and non-government committees and bodies concerned with achieving relevant government and departmental objectives.
