**The Role**

Reporting to Chief Executive, Regional Development Victoria, the Principal Adviser will be responsible for the provision of authoritative and strategic policy advice to the Chief Executive on a range of issues relevant to the Regional Development portfolio and cross-portfolio matters. The Principal Adviser leads the management of key projects, at the direction of the Chief Executive, ensuring that emerging risks are mitigated and addressed.

The position leads the Office of the Chief Executive team to build a high-performance environment that allows staff to deliver their roles and responsibilities effectively, supporting a safe and inclusive culture.

**Key accountabilities include**:

- Provide authoritative and strategic policy advice to the Chief Executive on a range of issues relevant to the Regional Development portfolio and cross-portfolio matters.
- Create and deliver clear, succinct, and solutions-focused written and verbal briefings on a range of complex and sensitive issues to the Chief Executive to a high-quality standard and oversight and ensure the quality and accuracy of any items (submissions/ reports/ briefings etc.) that are progressed to the Chief Executive for approval.
- Proactively initiate and maintain strong working relationships within RDV and with senior stakeholders across DJSIR, the Minister's Office and externally, including to influence and negotiate as required, to mitigate risk and progress government policy and priorities relevant to the Regional Development portfolio to achieve successful outcomes.
- Lead the management of key projects, analysis, research and review of policies and programs, at the direction of the Chief Executive, focussing on outcomes and delivering within available resources and timelines, ensuring that emerging risks are mitigated and addressed and make recommendations for improvement as required.

**The Team**

The position of Principal Adviser will work with Office of the Chief Executive, which sits within the Regional Development Victoria group.

**About You**

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

- **Systems Thinking**: Diagnoses trends, obstacles, and opportunities in the internal and external environment; understands the linkages between natural systems and communities to inform policy; conceptualises and defines the systems working within the organisation.
- **Policy Skills**: Formulates and communicates public policy options and recommendations; keeps up to date with a broad range of contemporary issues; scans for links and potential implications of proposed policy options; liaises with stakeholders.
- **Stakeholder Management**: Identifies issues in common for one or more stakeholders and uses to build mutually beneficial partnerships; identifies and responds to stakeholder's underlying needs; uses understanding of the stakeholder's organisational context to ensure outcomes are achieved; find innovative solutions to resolve stakeholder issues.
