The role
This role contributes to the effective leadership of Forensic Biology to ensure provision of integrated, comprehensive, cost effective, compliant and quality forensic services that ultimately support the integrity of the Queensland justice system. The role provides authoritative advice and expertise, and contributes to implementation of strategic and operational planning, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting systems. This key role will empower staff and foster workforce capability and a positive culture that promotes excellence and quality.
- Lead 3 direct reports and operationally manage a large team of 35, professionally delivering forensic services within Forensic Biology
- Contribute to strategic planning and resource management of the Unit
- Ensure the Unit meets all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards to exceed NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure the team is strategically integrated with FSQ to achieve service delivery goals
- Build a supportive, collaborative, cooperative and accountable work culture with a focus on professional development and workforce capability

The successful person
- Mandatory possession of a Bachelor degree or higher in medical science, forensic science, applied science or a relevant field from a recognised tertiary institution
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing employees in a forensic scientific environment
- Proven expertise to conduct and self-manage forensic casework including those of a more complex nature
- Proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction to ensure positive outcomes for all
- Proven experience in forensic scientific and laboratory practice and experience in developing, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures
- Substantial knowledge of contemporary forensic sciences professional standards including knowledge of NATA's forensic accreditation requirements
- Personal resilience and coping strategies to be able to sustain working in confronting and challenging circumstances

About us
Forensic Science Queensland (FSQ) laboratories are located at Coopers Plains. FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland. Forensic Biology provides analytical and advisory services principally to the Queensland Police Service in the areas of evidence recovery, DNA analysis and result interpretation culminating in expert advice and evidence.

Please note that proposed structural changes may result in Forensic Science Queensland being established as a separate entity within the Queensland Public Sector.
