Customs Classifier - Mascot
Are you an experienced professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for customs compliance? We are looking for a Customs Classifier to join our team and play a key role in supporting the customs clearance process for imported goods. In this role, you will ensure the accurate classification and valuation of goods in accordance with relevant legislation, while liaising with internal teams, clients, and external regulatory bodies.
Duties and Responsibilities / a day in the life of the Customs Classifier
- Compile and classify import products in accordance with the Customs Tariff Act.- Conduct customs valuation of imported goods based on the Customs Act.- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including the Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Department of Agriculture (Quarantine).- Ensure all DOA (Quarantine) import requirements are met and prepare accurate customs entries in line with company SOPs.- Work closely with clients to ensure correct classification of goods.- Lead clients and internal stakeholders in compliance with customs related laws
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Proven experience in a similar freight forwarding industry or related industry.- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.- Working knowledge of Customs Tariff and the Customs Act.- Ability to follow internal and external Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).- Strong analytical skills and ability to problem-solve.- Commercial focus with an understanding of business goals.- Positive attitude with excellent self-control and self-management.- Tertiary/TAFE Education: Completion of a Relevant Customs Brokers Course/Certificate is preferred.
