The Claims Assessment Branch (CABRA) works within the Client Benefits Division to meet the needs of DVAs clients in relation to compensation claims under the Veterans Entitlement Act 1986 (VEA), Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA), and the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988 (DRCA).

CABRA operates in a client-focused environment, often dealing with sensitive medical, financial, and other information. The Branch is respectful and empathetic to the unique and changing needs of the veteran community and is committed to providing quality outcomes for all internal and external stakeholders. It’s a dynamic, fast paced environment, with a high level of sensitivity and media interest.

**Duties**
- Manage a caseload of claims under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA), the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (VEA), and the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988 (DRCA), including:

- Commence claims in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Request information necessary to finalise each claim
- Maintain claim records in DVA computer systems
- Follow-up and consider information
- Seek input from Senior Delegates, Medical Advisers and Triage and Connect staff, as required
- Discuss adverse findings with clients and advocates
- Finalise claims
- Complete Needs Assessments and Treatment Path Determinations
- Provide operational support and advice to Team Leaders
- Contribute to business planning, evaluation, and reporting on organisational goals and objectives
- Contribute to continuous business improvement in a constructive and collaborative manner.

**Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

**Notes**

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to18 months.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
