CSIRO’s Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) is seeking a Program Lead to play a key role in driving our Labs of the Future (LoTF) strategic initiative. This initiative is based on our vision of science in 2030, ensuring CSIRO’s research facilities keep us at the cutting edge of science and technology.
As the LoTF Program Lead, you’ll contribute to the design, development, and delivery of the LoTF initiative. You’ll work closely with the Chief and Deputy Chief Scientists, the broader OCS team, and a range of senior internal stakeholders to inform a roadmap, lead the implementation plan and support LoTF installations. Looking internationally to similar initiatives and learning from industry and the research sectors, you’ll ensure our labs are delivery modern, next generation science workplaces suitable for Australia’s future research needs.
**Your duties will include**:
- Working with the Chief Scientist, Information Management and Technology (IM&T) and Infrastructure (CBIS) teams, and across the organisation to support the development, implementation, and delivery of the Labs of the Future initiative.
- Providing strategic advice to CSIRO leaders on approaches for achieving our LOTF vision and identifying and supporting LOTF opportunities in line with CSIRO’s Strategy.
- Developing and implementing the LoTF Technical Roadmap and Implementation plan that aligns with the LOTF Vision & Principles, Future Science and Technology statement, CSIRO’s Corporate Plan and Strategic Growth initiatives.
- Collating and providing high-quality reports on information; including trends, challenges and potential opportunities for the Office of the Chief Scientist and/or in response to Executive Team member requests.
- Establishing a baseline of CSIRO’s laboratory infrastructure, utilisation and alignment with LoTF principles to establish the current state.
- Engaging across a broad and varied scope which include but not limited to:
- Internal and external stakeholder consultation in support of developing and implementing the LOTF Technical roadmap.
- Co-operating with university and research institutes, government and industry to identify emerging needs and gaps where CSIRO can provide facilities and scientific excellence.
- Supporting infrastructure and equipment planning to ensure alignment with LoTF principles and objectives.
- Communicating effectively and working collaboratively with stakeholders including the CSIRO Executive and enablement functions to achieve LoTF vision.
**Location**:Melbourne or Sydney preferred, with other locations negotiable.
**Salary**:AU$121k - AU$142k pa plus up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:
- Tertiary qualifications in science and/or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated track record in planning and driving execution of strategic projects in a large and complex organisation that take a creative, agile and innovative approach while ensuring results.
- Experience and ability to facilitate and translate a strategic vision into practical action to progress toward that vision.
- Highly developed interpersonal and networking skills. Proven ability to establish and maintain strong and productive relationships and networks.
- Demonstrated high level of tactical and strategic communications experiences, including impactful presentations, both within and external to an organisation.
**Desirable**:
- Demonstrated laboratory experience and knowledge of health and safety protocols.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Quality Management Systems, Laboratory Inventory Management Systems and Electronic Lab Notebooks.
- Demonstrated experience in the planning and delivery of a significant digital transformation program.
- A significant record of innovation and creativity in the scientific environment, plus the ability & willingness to incorporate and/or promote the inclusion of novel ideas and approaches into projects of all sizes and scale.
