**Who we are**
The Detection Capability and Emerging Technology Section (made up of both the Detection Capability Program (DCP) and the Emerging Technology Program (ETP) sections) works to deliver a more seamless border experience by improving our ability to detect biosecurity risks across the traveller, mail, and cargo pathways. The DCP develops and trials new detection systems to improve the effectiveness of border screening, including through the development and management of the detector dog program and x-ray capability. The ETP promotes opportunities to improve biosecurity risk detection and operations through supporting the identification, trial and implementation of new technologies across traveller, mail and cargo pathways.

**The Job**
The duties of the role include:

- supporting strategic oversight of projects within the ETP including reporting
- promotion of the ETP through effective communication
- providing robust, evidence-based advice to support informed decision-making, aligned with Australian Government priorities (including those set out in the Commonwealth Biosecurity 2030 strategic roadmap). This includes assessment of alternate viewpoints and approaches
- assessing the viability (or otherwise) of introducing new technology within biosecurity operations which includes working with a range of stakeholders to identify contextual limitations (e.g. legislation) and opportunities
- building and maintaining strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including within the department, the broader APS, industry members and research bodies.
