**Who we are**
Inspector-General of Water Compliance The statutory position of the Inspector-General of Water Compliance (the Inspector-General) was established on 5 August 2021 via an amendment to the Water Act 2007 (the Act). The Inspector-General is an independent basin-wide integrity agency and regulator designed to hold governments, including the Australian Government and state governments, to account in meeting their obligations under the Basin Plan.
The Inspector-General of Water Compliance has both oversight powers and specific compliance powers relating to areas of water management. The Inspector-General’s oversight powers include the ability to undertake inquiries into how Commonwealth or Basin state agencies are performing their functions under the Water Act and the Basin Plan. The Inspector-General also oversights eleven intergovernmental agreements which implement various elements of the Basin Plan and may conduct audits to assess compliance with the Basin Plan and Water Resource Plans.
**Performance Monitoring**:
monitors and provides independent oversight of the performance of Commonwealth and Basin States agencies of their obligations in relation to the management of Basin water resources and supports the Inspector-General’s regulatory objectives.
**Compliance Monitoring**:
Assists the Director, Compliance Monitoring to develop and deliver a program of works that enables the Inspector-General to monitor for compliance and make evidence-based, informed decisions and actions for regulatory non-compliance in support of, the Inspector-General’s regulatory objectives.
**Governance, Inquiry and Operations (GIO)**:
manages the governance of the independent Inspector-General including enterprise risk, preparing and organising executive meetings, monthly and annual performance reporting, developing and loading annual budgets, implementing organisational policies and processes, including the development of frameworks and systems to support internal compliance.
**Media and Engagement**:
provide the Inspector-General of Water Compliance media and communications services, including media and issues management, corporate communications, creative content development and social media. Information analysis, intelligence mapping and reporting, including annual survey work across the Basin is conducted by this team, along with day-to-day stakeholder engagement and specialised community engagement activities - such as field days.
**The Job**
- Collating evidence-based facts and providing detailed technical or professional advice regarding complex water management issues, water regulation and compliance matters.
- Assisting in the development of strategies, frameworks, systems, standards, guidelines, analysis and reporting to deliver insights and intelligence to the Inspector-General.
- Building, maintaining, and utilising effective working relationships with state and territory Government enforcement agencies as well as communicating with informants and the regulated community.
- Strengthening the processes and governance for the Inspector-General.
- Effectively identifying and managing risks to project delivery and achieving team priorities.
- Identifying and progressing opportunities for practice and/or process improvements.
- Assisting with team administration including work planning and review.
- Effectively communicating with the regulated and broader community.

**Knowledge and experience**
Knowledge should include a tertiary degree in a relevant field. Relevant educational or professional qualifications, or industry experience in areas related to water, environmental or natural resource management, hydrological modelling, public/business administration, law, communications and media are highly regarded.
