**About the role**:

Primarily, the Principal Advisor leads the Office of the Executive Director and acts as a ‘chief of staff' coordinating the priority and strategic activities leads the Office of the Executive Director and acts as a ‘chief of staff' coordinating the priority and strategic activities of the Branch for and with the Executive Director.

Through the office, and the Branch executive, the Advisor drives the excellence in governance and decision making for the Branch, ensuring timely and high-quality advice is available to the Executive Director.
- The Principal Adviser maintains an understanding of government, department and divisional priorities, risks and issues, providing advice and management support to the Executive Director, enabling achievement of the Branch's key priorities.

**How you'll make a difference**:

- Design, deliver and maintain core governance functions for the branch.
- Strategically design and develop the delivery of branch objectives to meet departmental and government priorities.
- Support the Executive Director and branch executive to make the highest impact as possible through high performing systems and functions.
- Maintain an understanding of issues impacting the branch, including priority initiatives, commitments, projects and services, and investigate and develop strategies that enhance service delivery and budget effectiveness.
- Provide or synthesise high-level specialist advice and support to the Executive Director on a range of strategic policy and operational matters.
- Provide strategic thinking and future planning and oversee change management initiatives and integrated approaches to enhance compliance with department-wide policies.
- Effectively oversee branch operational and reporting activities and oversees the divisional processes to deliver these functions.
- Forge strong connections across the department and with external stakeholders to facilitate a partnership approach.
