Position Summary
The Housing and Specialised Services Group (HSSG) develops, collects and analyses data to support
reporting and policy decisions on the health and welfare of, and provision of services to, a range of
Australians. This includes:
- The use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and alcohol and other drug treatment services.
- People experiencing homelessness or needing assistance with housing.
- Children placed for adoption and their families, and children and young people in contact with
the child protection system.
- Young people experiencing the youth justice system.
- The health and welfare of people who are in prison.
- The experience of teachers through the Australian Teacher Workforce Dataset, and other
education projects.
HSSG are looking for Project Officers and Data Analysts to fill multiple positions within the following Units
(merit list will be used to fill future vacancies across the HSSG):
Child Welfare Unit - Project Officer, First Nations reporting team - position in Canberra Office
The Child Welfare Unit First Nations reporting team is responsible for two annual releases for Child
Protection Australia (CPA) Report. CPA: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and CPA: Pathways
from Out-of-Home-Care. In addition, the team is responsible for data development projects to support the
National Agreement on Closing the Gap reporting and reporting to support Safe and Supported: National
Framework to Protect Australia’s Children (Safe and Supported).
The Project Officer will be responsible for managing two small projects. The first project will support data
development for Safe and Supported. And the second project will manage the release of CPA Pathways from
Out-of-Home-Care.
- Undertake external stakeholder consultation with both government and non-government
organisations
- Prepare committee papers for consultation
- Manage two small projects

- Support data analytical activities across the unit
Housing and Homelessness Reporting and Development Unit - Project Officer
The Housing and Homelessness Reporting and Development Unit is responsible for delivering evidence
about homelessness support services and housing assistance provided to Australians in need. The Unit is
also responsible for supporting states and territories to develop nationally consistent data definitions for
national reporting requirements.
The Project officer will primarily be responsible for authoring reports, writing and/or coordinating technical
working group papers,
