**THE ROLE**

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Computational Designer to be part of our growing Global Digital team. You will be working within a dedicated team of digital and computational experts who will be pushing boundaries, moving quickly, and building best in class systems, workflows, tools, and products. As a key part of this team, this role will primarily focus on two areas:

- working interactively with project and service teams across the company, leveraging computational techniques and methods to solve complex multidisciplinary problems and build tools and interoperability workflows.
- be part of a broader transformational programme looking to build new systems and products for internal and external use.

While this role will require a high level of proficiency in accepted computational tools and software such as Rhino, Grasshopper, Rhino Inside, Revit, Dynamo, we are also looking for someone with strong skills in programming languages such as C#, Python and/or Typescript. Web development tools and frameworks such as SQL, React, and IFC.js are a bonus.

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work and collaborate in an agile development environment, prioritising the development of widely applicable and repeatable tools.
- Develop, maintain, and implement custom apps and services to automate tasks, build interoperability, and solve challenging design and delivery problems.
- Develop new computational tools and workflows to facilitate design exploration, automated analysis, and data management. Develop BIM and computational platform extensions.
- Undertake and employ research to anticipate customer needs and stay at the forefront of and define industry trends.
- Work as part of a global specialist team to deliver solutions to Populous internally and to its external clients.
- Create and maintain implementation documents as required for tools and workflows.
- Communicate with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to capture specialist knowledge and incorporate information into design, project requirements and documents as needed.
- Promote newly developed workflows and toolsets across global Populous studios.
- Contribute to internal and external publications, presentations, seminars, and talks on Innovation and Research.
- Consistently review work and communicate needs and concerns to project staff.
- Define staff requirements for projects as needed or directed.

**KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES**:

- Understanding and experience in Agile / DevOps environment, with an ability to embrace change in a constantly evolving environment.
- Knowledge of computational design methodologies such as development of advanced environmental simulation workflows and generative design solutions.
- Ability to work iteratively across a variety of project typologies and among multiple BIM and design platforms. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in constructing parametric models for the purposes of facilitating aesthetic design decision-making, integrated data visualization and operations design.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly strong Excel Skills.
- Experience with data analysis apps and techniques strongly preferred. Familiarity with data visualization techniques and practices.
- Strong graphic, visualization, and representation skills to communicate design ideas.
- Strong relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
- Understanding of architectural building systems.
- Communicates professionally both verbally and in writing.
- Works in a team environment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Highly self-motivated; ability to conduct design studies with mínimal supervision.

**EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE**:

- Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or related field preferred, postgraduate qualification is a bonus.
- Preferred 2+ years AEC industry experience with a focus on computation.
- Significant experience in other advanced industries will also be considered: automotive, aerospace, defence, games, film & TV, etc
- Strong experience with 3D software, parametric/gene
