About us
VCAT is part of Victoria's justice system and is a tribunal that serves the community by resolving civil disputes and making decisions in human rights and guardianship cases. We hear and decide over 85,000 cases a year across Victoria.
About the role
The Residential Tenancies Division receives around 40,000 disputes a year and have the highest backlog as a result of the pandemic. The backlog recovery program was established on 1 December 2021, with the aim of reducing the Residential Tenancies list backlog to the maximum extent possible. This role and the RT Case Management Team - Backlog Recovery, was developed as part of the program and works alongside the business-as-usual registry team.
The Team Leader is primarily responsible for leading, supporting and developing the case management team, comprising of three administrative officers. This will cover tasks such as:
- preparing referrals to registry, Tribunal Members and stakeholders
- exercising quasi-judicial and statutory delegated functions to close resolved matters, identified throughout the completion of backlog initiatives
- listing of backlog cases for hearing
- monitoring reports to continuously bring forward the lodgement date of our oldest cases
- be a point of escalation for Member enquiries relating to backlog files.
In addition, under the direction and guidance of the Deputy Registrar Backlog Recovery and Registrar, the Team Leader is also responsible for assisting with identifying cases suitable to refer through different backlog initiatives.
