The _Public Finance and Audit Act 1987_ (the Act) establishes the office of the Auditor-General and sets out its powers and functions. The Auditor-General is an independent officer appointed by the Governor of South Australia and reports directly to the Parliament on the audits and examinations of state and local government agencies, covering financial reports and operations, controls and matters of public interest. This rare opportunity is now available to contribute to public sector accountability and performance for the benefit of all South Australians.

As the independent auditor of the South Australian public sector, the Auditor-General is a crucial constitutional safeguard to preserve the financial integrity of the state’s system of government. Leading the Auditor-General’s Department (circa 130 employees), you will provide independent and forthright reports to Parliament to ensure a better understanding of the performance of public sector and local government agencies. This involves complying with the requirements of the Act, analysing and assessing impacts of events and developments affecting the sector, as well as implementing risk-based audit strategies and a system of quality control to ensure reports are robust. You will also foster relationships with Ministers, the Economic and Finance Committee, professional accounting bodies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure high standards are maintained.
