**Who we are**
The Audit and Assurance Branch (AAB) is responsible for the delivery of regulatory audits and other activities to manage biosecurity and export risks. Our workforce conducts nationally integrated regulatory audits to manage the compliance of import and export registered establishments and Approved Arrangements. AAB plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of the department’s assurance processes, providing confidence that departmental regulatory systems and control points are managing risks. AAB have approximately 80 staff - auditors, technical experts’, operational managers and business services. We operate as a national team with staff located in departmental offices in major capital cities and regional centres.

The Audit Operations Section is responsible for the delivery of the audit work program in line with the agreed Risk Based Approach, which includes audit preparation, desk audits, remote and on-site audits and audit follow-up.

The department is currently undergoing a large reform process as part of AG2030 and we are looking for people with the ability to train in system audits but also deliver on new innovative programs of assurance. Currently we conduct more than 8000 audits each year for multiple commodities. We conduct audits of:

- biosecurity approved arrangements
- plant export property accreditations
- plant export registered establishment audits & 1900 Plant Authorised Officer verifications
- fish, eggs and dairy export registered establishments
- meat processing export registered establishments
- Plant Authorised Officer verifications.

**The Jobs**
The Auditor role is to undertake audits across commodities and functions against the relevant criteria (to build strong industry compliance) and the role works within the parameters of the Auditor Management Framework. The Auditor will:

- lead and/or conduct audits, assessing risk against relevant legislation, criteria and guidelines
- ensure accurate and timely record keeping is maintained to meet guidelines and client service standards
- work as part of a team and support staff in learning and development opportunities to improve audit skills
- communicate, liaise and negotiate with and respond to internal and external stakeholders and entities, including government agencies and industry parties, to achieve desired outcomes
- build and maintain productive working relationships within the department, with regulated entities and across industry
- commit to and lead business improvement initiatives, demonstrating a positive attitude towards change.

**Please note** that this recruitment process will be used to fill multiple vacancies across the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

The successful applicants must:

- hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers licence
- note that the physical requirements of the role(s) involve a combination of outdoor and office-based work
- wear an official uniform supplied by the department, including during field operations (as applicable), in accordance with the department’s uniform policy
- wear appropriate protective personal equipment and clothing to comply with departmental Work Health & Safety policies and procedures
- note that the role may require overseas, interstate or intrastate travel
- note that all audit competencies and other training requirements will need to be maintained.
