**Who we are**
**About the Authority**
The _Net Zero Economy Act 2024_ (NZEA Act) established the Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority) as a statutory agency in December 2024.
Our vision is to deliver a better future for industrial regions, communities and workers in a net zero economy. Our vision underpins all our work. It reflects the objectives of the NZEA Act, which directs us to:
- promote orderly and positive economic transformation.
- facilitate greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
- ensure regions, communities and workers are supported to manage the impacts, and share in the benefits, of the net zero economy.
The authority is presently establishing itself as a separate entity, including off-boarding from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). The authority is expected to transition shortly to being a separate entity from PM&C, at which time, all employees will transfer under Machinery of Government (MoG) changes to the authority.
**About the Branch**
The authority has a legislated function to encourage, support, develop and deliver educational and promotional initiatives for the purpose of promoting an understanding of, and enabling participation in, Australia’s transition to a net zero emissions economy.
The Communications Branch drives the delivery of this function and is responsible for managing communications to support Australian communities and their economic transition.
The Branch collaborates within the authority, and with external partners, to deliver targeted communications strategies and products to meet the needs of our audiences, and meet the business requirements of the authority.
There are two sections within the branch:
- Strategic Communications.
- Digital, Media and Design.
**What you will do**
Directors are an important part of the branch leadership group, and supports the team to work collaboratively with the CEO’s Office to achieve strong communication outcomes for the authority. As a key business partner to other teams across the organisation, the Directors will build and nurture strong relationships across the authority and with media organisations, communities and stakeholders externally.
In addition to the general responsibilities and duties outlined in the Work Level Standards for the Executive Level 2 level, Directors will lead and manage a small team (around 5-8 staff each) to deliver the associated functions of their relevant section as outlined below.
The Strategic and Internal Communications section is responsible for:
- Developing and implementing regional communication strategies.
- Supporting the development of the communications products for key projects under the Net Zero Jobs Plan.
- Producing information and education material to convey key messages regarding the transition to net zero.
- Leading inter-departmental engagement and support for whole-of-government net zero communication activities.
- Building and nurturing communications partnerships.
The Digital, Media and Design section is responsible for:
- Media management and strategy.
- Executive communications support, including the Spokesperson Framework.
- Advice on sponsorship proposals.
- External monthly stakeholder newsletter.
- Netzero.gov.au website content creation, planning and management.
- Social media channel management, maintenance and strategy.
