Head of Corporate

About the Agency and Branch
A statutory agency established in 2024 is leading Australia's transition to a net zero economy. Now becoming a standalone entity, it is focused on inclusive, sustainable change—driving economic transformation, reducing emissions, and supporting regions, communities, and workers to adapt and thrive.
The Corporate Branch supports the organisation's mission by delivering key services such as HR, finance, governance, legal, ICT, and security. As a newly established entity, it is building independent systems and capabilities to manage these functions.
About the role
The Head of Corporate plays a critical leadership role in shaping the Authority's foundations—culture, systems, and capability—to ensure long-term impact and independence. Reporting to the CEO, they oversee strategic and operational delivery of enabling functions, lead a multidisciplinary team of 30, and engage regularly with the Board and Executive on corporate strategy, governance, and compliance for an organisation of around 160 people.
Duties
- Lead workforce planning, recruitment, development, performance, and wellbeing initiatives.
- Cultivate an inclusive, safe, and high-performing culture aligned with APS values and the organisation's mission.
- Design and implement scalable, secure ICT and digital systems that enhance efficiency, innovation, and cyber resilience.
- Establish governance, audit, risk, compliance, and reporting frameworks to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Oversee finance, procurement, property, legal, and other enabling functions, ensuring value for money and effective resource stewardship.
- Advise the CEO, Executive, and Board on corporate system integrity, while shaping strategy to safeguard independence and impact.
- Foster collaboration and professional growth, supporting policy and system development through a dynamic period of change.
Skills & experience
We are seeking a seasoned senior leader with a strong track record in delivering high-quality enabling services within the APS, and experience guiding an agency through a Machinery of Government change or restructure will be highly valued. An understanding of the unique challenges and operational demands of a small agency environment is essential.
- Proven leadership across corporate functions in complex environments, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
- Skilled in building lean, accountable systems that manage risk and ensure legislative compliance.
- Strong ability to anticipate organisational needs and align national priorities with sustainable corporate outcomes.
- Demonstrated success in fostering inclusive, high-performing cultures grounded in public service values and ethical leadership.
- Effective communicator and strategic advisor, with a track record of influencing senior stakeholders and partnering with central agencies.
